Eventually they realized they could and should for some needs but still didn't because the servers were all set commercially - forward & erase to maintain flow & cost less money in storage. Not now but in 2003 you could deal crack or nukes using SMS & no one looked sideways at it

Feb 22, 2012 - so far in my discovery, i haven't found substantial evidence condemning CSIS with even a parallel to the gross misconduct today and blatant oversight malfeasance. i do know that they have the ability and will for broad and deep monitoring - like downloading ur address book or other phone details from device to network interception, which ur talking to. it's about intent; the collateral damage pattern rcmp, opp, etc. leave can be criminal at times. not (yet?) from csis.

Even for the G20 mass arrests crimes by police CSIS showed up in a way that actually warned people they were going to get smash-n-grabbed but didn't do it themselves. That's kind of a courtesy call.

Feb 22, 2012 - exactly. it could be a nice cop, bad cop routine, but until i see evidence of deception or other lewd behaviour, i too, for now, give csis the benefit of the doubt in my thoughts/words. either way, the point of the post is yay or nay the 'new' powers, and we're both saying csis has had them for a while now, and more (carrier iq, for example).
